Conservative Politician Larry Elder Claims Descendants Of Slave Owners Should Receive Reparations: Their Legal Property Was Taken Away From Them After The Civil War

Larry Elder recently shared some polarizing thoughts about reparations!

Earlier this summer, conservative politician Larry Elder appeared on Candace Owens‘ podcast, The Candace Owens show. For context, Larry Elder is a Republican political figure who is currently running to replace Governor Gavin Newsom in California‘s gubernatorial recall election.

During his sit-down with Candace OwensLarry Elder made some controversial comments regarding reparations. While reparations are normally geared towards the descendants of African-American slaves, Larry Elder took a different approach to the subject. Specifically, he claimed the descendants of slave owners should receive reparations as well. Larry Elder stated:

“When people talk about reparations, do they really want to have that conversation? Like it or not, slavery was legal. Their legal property was taken away from them after the Civil War, so you could make an argument that the people that are owed reparations are not only just Black people but also the people whose ‘property’ was taken away after the end of the Civil War.”

Larry Elder‘s comments about reparations resurfaced as he runs to serve as the Governor of California. There is currently an election over whether or not to recall Gavin Newsom, and Larry Elder has received strong support from those in support of the recall.
