Whitney Houston Biopic Sets Release Date For December 2022
The story of the late and great singer Whitney Houston is officially coming to theaters.
This week, TriStar Pictures announced that the Whitney Houston biopic, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody,’ is set to hit theaters on Dec. 23, 2022.

Named after her hit song, ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody,’ the movie will give fans an opportunity to witness her full life and career with a journey through her music.
As previously reported, the film recently made a change in production, bringing on Kasi Lemmons to direct.
Lemmons, who directed Eve’s Bayou and more recently, Harriet, replaced Stella Meghie, due to creative differences. Following the news Lemmons said,
“Early in my writing career I developed two projects for Whitney, and I had the opportunity to meet her. She was a tremendous, incomparable artist, and her story is as awe-inspiring as it is tragic. I feel privileged to be part of bringing her life story and music to the audience.”
‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody,‘ is being made with the support of Whitney Houston’s estate and includes Grammy award winner Clive Davis as a producer.
Slated to play the iconic singer is British actress Naomi Ackie, who is also known for her role in season three of Netflix’s Master of None, opposite of Lena Waithe.

Whitney Houston, who passed away on February 11th, 2012, was known as one of the best-selling music artists, selling over 200 million records.

The film of her life is the second film to receive a release date from Sony, who also dated the untilted George Foreman biopic for Sept. 16th, 2022.
