Swizz Beatz Says ‘Kanye Was Willing To Do A Verzuz’ Against Drake

It appears the ongoing drama between Kanye West and Drake almost made it to the stage for a Verzuz battle. During a recent interview with radio personality Angie Martinez, Swizz Beatz shared that Kanye West was open to doing a Verzuz and he allegedly wanted to go against his rap nemesis, Drake. He said,

“I know Kanye was willing to do the verzuz.”

He continued,

“He wanted to battle Drake.”

Swizz Beatz added,

“But I know they communications starting getting in a zone, you know what I’m saying. But I just left that up to them. And that’s what I told [Timbaland] as well. ‘Yo, they have to bring that to the table.’ You know, like, they would have to agree to do that. Kanye was ready but I don’t know where that’s at now. I still leave it on them.”

It’s unclear if we’ll ever see a Kanye West and Drake Verzuz anytime soon, however, if it did happen, both rappers definitely have a large body of work to showcase. They’ve also both recently dropped new albums.

On Aug. 29, Kanye released his 10th studio album entitled Donda. The project debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200, making it Kanye’s 10th consecutive #1 album.

A few days later, on Sept. 3, Drake released his 6th studio album Certified Lover Boy. The album broke both Apple Music and Spotify’s 2021 record for largest streaming debut within a single day.

As previously reported, Drake seemingly took a shot at Swizz Beatz on CLB for comments the Verzuz co-creator made about him in the past. During an interview that took place last summer, Swizz Beatz spoke on the status of his relationship with Drake and said,

“That kid is a good kid…we made a hit record together. It’s all love. I don’t want no problems with anything. I just wanna play music, because my filter is burnt…at the end of the day, n***as is p***y forreal.”

Fans speculate that Drake fired back at Swizz Beatz in his newly released track ‘You Only Live Twice’ by seemingly referencing their old song ‘Fancy’ and the song he co-wrote for Swizz Beatz’s wife Alicia Keys, ‘Unthinkable’. During the song, Drake raps:

“Unthinkable when I think of the way these n***as been actin’/ Yeah, I never did you nothin’ and you play like we family, huh?/ Next thing, you wanna shoot me down, it can’t be love./ Not sure where you was tryna send it, it can’t be up./ That day you sounded like a b****, you fancy, huh?”
