NBA’s Karl-Anthony Towns, Who Lost His Mother & Several Family Members To COVID, Reacts To Kyrie Irving’s Vaccine Controversy: You Don’t Want To Do It, That’s Your Choice

Karl-Anthony Towns is addressing the controversy surrounding Kyrie Irving‘s vaccination status.

As previously reported, Kyrie Irving recently spoke out about not being allowed to play for the Brooklyn Nets because he’s unvaccinated. This past Wednesday (Oct. 13th), Kyrie Irving in part said:

“It’s not always about the money–it’s about choosing what’s best for you. You think I really want to lose money? You think I really want to give up on my dream to go after a championship? You think I really just want to give up my job?… You think I want to give up my livelihood because of the mandate, because I don’t have accommodations because I’m unvaccinated? C’mon–I’m not gonna be used as a person in this agenda.”

Kyrie‘s statement was in response to the Brooklyn Nets’ general manager revealing that he wouldn’t be allowed to play until he’s vaccinated for COVID-19:

“He has a choice to make, and he made his choice. My job here is to make what we deem as the best choices for the organization moving ahead as a whole. They’re not always ones that are going to be met with open arms and thumbs up. These are hard decisions… If he was vaccinated, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.”

Now, Minnesota Timberwolves player Karl-Anthony Towns is speaking on the matter. For context, Karl-Anthony Towns lost seven family members, including his mother, to coronavirus. When asked for his thoughts on Kyrie‘s situation, he said:

“I’m obviously a strong believer in the vaccine. I’ve been through so much and it would be kind of contradictory to not be on the pro-vaccine side. But what I will say is that I believe in choice and I like to give people their choice and I have no problem with people having their choice.”

The 25-year-old NBA star went on to add that he believes the decision of whether to get vaccinated is a “human” and “American” right. Karl-Anthony then stated:

“They make their own decisions on their own bodies and their own families. I have no ill will towards that. The only thing I would say is just don’t give me a bulls**t excuse why [you don’t get the vaccine]. You don’t want to do it, that’s your choice.”
