John Legend is sharing his true thoughts on Kanye West and Donald Trump!
Earlier this week, a book by Danny Goldberg titled Bloody Crossroads 2020: Art, Entertainment, and Resistance to Trump debuted. The publication focuses on artists’ resistance to Donald Trump during his presidency, and at one point in the book, John Legend was interviewed. During his sit-down with Danny Goldberg, the “All of Me” singer speculated on why he thinks Kanye West publicly endorsed Donald Trump.
As you may recall, Kanye West has a history of showing support for Trump. The pair were first spotted together back in 2016 at Trump Tower.

Subsequently, the “Off The Grid” rapper began supporting Trump and was often spotted in a MAGA hat.

He later defended wearing the infamous red hat on Twitter, in part writing:
“People can’t tell me what to do because I’m Black.”

Despite his past support, Kanye later cut ties with Trump and ran for president in the 2020 U.S. election.

While reflecting on the matter, John Legend told Danny Goldberg:
“I don’t see Kanye as a political person at all. We never talked about politics. He had never voted before 2020.”
John Legend then proclaimed:
“He saw in Trump the kind of underdog narcissist that he sees in himself.”

This isn’t the first time John Legend has spoken on Kanye and Trump. Last year, John revealed:
“Kanye, if he’s for you, he’s a very ardent marketer and cheerleader…I think what was always challenging about it was Kanye has never been political. I don’t think he knows one way or another what policies of Trump’s he likes. He just kind of embraced Trump’s blow-it-all-up spirit and the energy of himself being counter-cultural in supporting him… I’m not trying to disown Kanye because I still love him and love everything we’ve done together creatively–but we were never the closest of friends.”
