L.A. Reid Wants To See Mariah Carey Verzuz Beyoncé

L.A. Reid Says His Ideal Versuz Battle Is Between Mariah Carey & Beyoncé
Could the ultimate diva face-off be coming to Versuz?
Legendary record executive L.A. Reid wants Mariah Carey and Beyoncé to duel in a hit-for-hit Versuz battle. L.A. sat down with The Real hosts to discuss a topic he knows plenty about–music. When asked who he thought should take the stage next on Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s Versuz, L.A. answered:
“It’s Mariah Carey versus Beyoncé!”
He highlighted that the battle would be epic due to their massive fan bases, countless hits, and exceptional legacies. He added:
“Bey’s the queen, right? We know Bey is the queen. But sometimes Mariah might be slightly underrated for how long her career has lasted, how many hits she has, and she practically owns Christmas.”
Mariah’s ex-husband Nick Cannon would beg to differ.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club back in August, Nick said that no one could go against Mariah except for disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly. He explained:
“Mariah writes. That’s what people gotta understand. Mariah’s a musician. I’m not impressed by people who can perform songs that it took 30 people to make with you.”
The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne Tha God noted that practically every artist in the industry has assistance in the writing department, including Beyoncé. Nick was adamant about his stance and continued:
“The only person in this day and age that could go–that could’ve gone–against Mariah Carey because she writes all of her songs, she actually produces all of her songs, she puts the songs together and performs them at a high level…R. Kelly.”

L.A. served as an executive producer on Mariah’s huge comeback success, The Emancipation of Mimi, in 2005. He suggested the title of the project, and his other input propelled Mariah back into superstardom. The two worked together again for Mariah’s 2008 album, E=MC².
Although L.A. Reid has worked with just about every name in music, he hasn’t directly produced any projects with Beyoncé.
