Jada Pinkett-Smith Reveals That She Has Alopecia

Jada Pinkett-Smith says that an autoimmune disorder is responsible for her new look.

Decorated actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, 50, uploaded a video of herself embracing her bald head. In the Instagram video, she subtly revealed that her sudden switch-up was due to alopecia. She grazed a bare strip on her head–which laid in a sea of slight new growth–with her index finger to indicate where the condition had worsened. Through laughter, Jada said:

“Now at this point, I can only laugh. Y’all know I been struggling with alopecia and…just all of a sudden one day…look at this line right here,”

She continued:

“…and so [the line] just showed up like that. Now, this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide, so I thought I’d just share it so y’all aren’t asking any questions. But, you know, momma’s gon’ put some rhinestones in there, and I’m just gon’ make me a lil’ crown.”

Earlier this year, Jada said that her new do’ was inspired by her daughter Willow, who has also rocked a bald head. She stated:

“Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed.”

At the time, she’d cut her hair down to a fade. In the Instagram video where she opened up about having alopecia, she captioned the post:

“Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something
Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period.”

The caption suggests that the Matrix Resurrections star will have her head cleanly shaved at her next barbershop trip.
