Whoopi Goldberg Returns to ‘The View’ Amid Suspension For Controversial Holocaust Comments: ‘We’re going to keep having tough conversations’

Whoopi Goldberg’s suspension has ended and she is back on The View!

On Monday (Feb.14), Goldberg, returned to The View alongside Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin and guest host Ana Navarro. The 66-year-old actress/talk show host received a warm welcome from her co host after a two week suspension. Whoopi began the show with a big greeting to her viewers,

“Hello, hello, hello and welcome to The View. And yes, I am back.”

As Joy Behar told her, “We missed you,” Whoopi replied,

“I missed you all too. I got to tell you, there’s something kind of marvelous about being on a show like this because we are The View and this is what we do. Sometimes we don’t do this as eloquently as we could…but it’s five minutes to get in important information about topics. And that’s what we try to do every day.”

Goldberg went on to thank those who reached out to her during her suspension.

“I want to thank everybody who reached out while I was away. People reached out from places that made me go, ‘Wait, what, what, really?’ And it was amazing.”

Without directly addressing the controversial moment, Whoopi Goldberg says that she and her co host are going to continue to have “tough conversations”.

“I listened to everything everybody had to say and I was very grateful and I hope it keeps all the important conversations happening because we’re going to keep having tough conversations.

She continued,

“And in part, because this is what we were hired to do and It’s not always pretty as I said and it’s not always what other people would like to hear, but it is an honor to sit at the table and be able to have these conversations because they’re important. They’re important to us as a nation and important to us more as a human entity.”

As previously reported, Whoopi Goldberg was suspended for two weeks due to controversial comments made about the holocaust. On an episode of The View, the co-host claimed that the historical event,

“was not about race”

That same day, she issued a public apology which read,

“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people–who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected.”

It continued:

“The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.

Written with my sincerest apologies,

Whoopi Goldberg.”’
