Whoopi Goldberg’s Co-Hosts Reportedly Upset Over Her Suspension From ‘The View’ Over Holocaust Remarks

It’s been less than 24 hours since Whoopi Goldberg’s suspension from “The View”, and it seemingly has already caused a frenzy. According to reports, Goldberg’s co-hosts on The View are furious at ABC for suspending the 66-year-old comedian/actress over her controversial remarks that the Holocaust was

“not about race.”

ABC News president Kim Godwin announced late Tuesday (Feb.1) that Goldberg would be temporarily suspended from the popular talk show. Godwin said,

“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for her wrong and hurtful comments. While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.”

As previously reported, On Monday’s (Jan.31) episode of The View, the co hosts were discussing a Tennessee school district’s decision to pull a Holocaust book from the curriculum. During that segment  Whoopi Goldberg stated,

“Let’s be truthful about it because Holocaust isn’t about race. It’s not about race. It’s not about race. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

When Whoopi’s co-host Ana Navarro mentioned that “it’s about white supremacists going after Jews,” Whoopi responded:

“But these are two white groups of people! The minute you turn it into race it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, Jews, it’s each other.”

Since then, the “Ghost” actress issued an apology for her controversial comments. Her public apology, which was posted on Twitter, read:

“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathon Greenblatt from Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people–who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected.”

It continued:

“The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.

Written with my sincerest apologies,

Whoopi Goldberg.”

Reportedly, Whoopi Goldberg’s suspension was not only due to her comments, but allegedly some ABC insiders insisted that her apology wasn’t enough and demanded she be fired. However, sources say that Goldberg’s co-hosts — Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar and Ana Navarro — are furious that she was suspended. Navarro, who is a regular guest host and was on Monday’s show, defended Goldberg.

“I love Whoopi Goldberg. I love ‘The View.” This was an incredibly unfortunate incident. Whoopi is a lifelong ally to the Jewish community. She is not an anti-Semite, period. I am sad. And I have nothing else to say.”
