Kanye’s Manager “Bu” Thiam Appointed To Executive VP At Columbia Records
Kanye West isn’t the only artist who will be learning a thing or two from Abou “Bu” Thiam.
Columbia Records has named Abou Thiam as their executive vice president. In the position, Abou Thiam will be in charge of managing A&R and strategic efforts for the label across all genres.
Bu shared his success on Instagram saying,
“The takeover starts Now !”

The joint venture BuVision is part of the connection between Columbia Records CEO Ron Perry and Bu. The new EVP, who is the real-life brother of rapper Akon said,
“I didn’t see myself inside a major label again. But after working so closely with Ron and the Columbia team over the last few months, it was an opportunity I wanted to take on. Ron is one of the best leaders in the industry, we share a similar perspective on music and the business. … Columbia is forward-thinking and believes in the future of music. I am excited to join a winning and dedicated team to expand the company’s vision and introduce the world to tomorrow’s stars. I am looking forward to making an impactful contribution for years to come and I thank [Sony Music Group chairman] Rob Stringer and Ron Perry for giving my vision a home, at Columbia.”
Bu said he will continue to manage Kanye West as he joins the realms of Columbia Records, the record label that is home to a variety of artists, including Adele, Blink-182, Lil Nas X and Harry Styles.
