Jada Pinkett Smith Was Adamant On Moving Forward W/ Family’s Vacation To India Despite Will Smith’s Oscars Slap Backlash

As the old saying goes, one monkey don’t stop the show!

Despite the controversy surrounding Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap, it appears Jada Pinkett Smith was determined for her family to continue with their planned trip to India. A source opened up about the Smiths’ decision to still go on vacation despite the current chaos. The source revealed that their getaway was already planned prior to the Oscars’ turmoil. The insider said,
“Will and Jada have taken the family on [a] vacation that was already planned…There had been talk of canceling [the trip] but Jada insisted.”

The “King Richard” actor was spotted in Mumbai, India, on Saturday (Apr.23), making this his first appearance since the Academy Awards’ slap. Will Smith appeared to be in good spirits as he smiled for photos with fans.

Last month, viewers nationwide were shocked to see Will Smith hit comedian Chris Rock during the prestigious film ceremony. As previously reported, The slap came after Chris Rock made an insensitive joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s, bald head caused by her alopecia condition–which is an autoimmune disease. Shortly after the incident, the Academy released a statement saying an official review of the altercation would be held to “explore further action and consequences.”

Although Will Smith issued a public apology and resigned from the academy, he was still banned from the Oscars for 10 years.  Following the backlash, a source close to Jada Pinkett Smith said that while the “Girls Trip” actress isn’t “angry” with her husband for slapping Chris Rock, she “wishes he didn’t” get physical with the comedian. The source also claimed that the couple are “in agreement” that Will “overreacted.” The insider shared,

“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him [Will Smith] overreacting. He knows that, she [Jada] knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.”

The insider added,

“She doesn’t want to be the center of attention, she doesn’t want her husband being the center of attention. This was not how she saw the night going — no one did. He was winning one of the most important awards of his life and the entire night became about Will and Chris [and] neither of them wanted that. She hopes that they can move on.”

The “Set It Off” star’s “Red Table Talk” returned to Facebook Watch for season 5 last week and she hinted that the family would eventually unpack the Oscars drama on the show, but not right now. Ahead of the season premiere, Jada released a statement.

“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then… the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest. Thanks for joining us, Jada.”
