Warriors Player Andrew Wiggins Regrets Getting COVID-19 Vaccine: It Wasn’t My Choice
Golden State Warriors player Andrew Wiggins says he wishes he never gotten the COVID-19 vaccine.
During a recent interview, the 27-year-old forward expressed his regret in getting the Covid-19 vaccine in order to play in the 2021-22 season. He said,
“I still wish I didn’t get [vaccinated], to be honest with you. But you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.”
“I did it and I was an All-Star this year and champion, so that was the good part, just not missing out on the year, the best year of my career. But for my body, I just don’t like putting all that stuff in my body, so I didn’t like that and I didn’t like that it wasn’t my choice.”
He added,
” I didn’t like that it was either get this or don’t play.”

Andrew Wiggins
Throughout the NBA season, Andrew Wiggins adamantly resisted the vaccine requirement and even filed for a religious exemption. However, he was denied and ultimately got vaccinated in order to play.
Following his decision, Wiggins ended up averaging 18 points and 8 rebounds in the Finals this season, leading his team to a championship, and was arguably Golden State’s second most valuable player throughout their championship run.

Andrew Wiggins isn’t the only NBA player that made headlines for going against the Covid-19 vaccine. Brooklyn Nets player, Kyrie Irving, publicly spoke out against the vaccine and chose not to get it, causing him to be temporarily barred from playing in home games due to local protocols mandating that professional sports players be vaccinated. Kyrie received a lot of backlash from fans and even others in the sports/entertainment industry including iconic NBA player, Charles Barkley.

Charles Barkley, Kyrie Irving
Back in October, during a discussion on TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ tip-off show, Charles Barkley made it very clear that he did not agree with Kyrie’s stance. Barkley said,
“ I got vaccinated, I can’t wait to get the booster. You don’t get vaccinated just for yourself. Like Adam [Silver] said, you get vaccinated for your family first, you get vaccinated for your teammates second. Things like that. That’s what bothers me about this whole thing.”
The retired NBA player added,
“People are saying he’s like [Muhammad] Ali. First of all, don’t ever compare anyone to Ali. Ali went three years without boxing when he was the highest-paid athlete in the world.”
