Is Barack Obama about to become the face of an NBA team?

As previously reported, Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver is banned from the basketball league for one season and is mandated to pay a $10 million fine due to misconduct in the workplace. Following an investigation, it was discovered that Robert Sarver used the ‘N-word’ at least five times “when recounting the statement of others.” He has since stepped down from his ownership position and placed both his teams, the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, up for sale.

During a recent episode of the “Bill Simmons Podcast” host Bill Simmons and Charles Barkley chatted about how sports ownership grounds tend to have front-facing “owners” who run the team while other rich people actually own most of the franchise. 

 Bill Simmons also shared speculation that former president Barack Obama will soon be a face “owner” of the Phoenix Suns,

The sports analyst said:

“I heard Obama’s involved in one of the groups, and that’s the one guy — that I feel like — they would make him the actual face and the money guys would be so happy to have him at the front…”

Charles Barkley, who played for the Suns from 1992-1996, responded:

“If Obama calls me and says ‘would you be a part owner of the team?’ Hell yeah. I have so much love and admiration for that guy.”

Charles Barkley’s opinion may be credible to many due to his past of leading the Suns to their second-ever NBA Finals appearance in 1992-93. He averaged 26.6 points, 13.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks during those playoffs.

Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States, also has a history of sports involvement. Along with being known for prioritizing youth sports in policies, Obama is a well-known Chicago (where he spent his early life) Bulls fan.
