Charlamagne Tha God Teams Up w/ His Wife To Become Franchisees Of Krystal Fast Food Restaurants: We Thank God For It All
Charlamagne Tha God (real name Lenard McKelvey) is adding “Black restaurant owner” to his list of business ventures.
The radio/TV personality and his wife, personal trainer Jessica Gadsden, have teamed up to become franchisees of Krystal fast-food restaurants. Beginning in 2023, the couple intends to launch and co-brand six locations in their home state of South Carolina.
In a statement, Charlamagne Tha God and Jessica Gadsden said,
“The Krystal restaurant brand is known for bringing quality ingredients and creativity to customers and we are proud to be franchise owners and even prouder to be providing jobs for our folks by investing in our home state.”
The Breakfast Club host also celebrated his new business venture via Instagram. He said,
“No Disrespect To Anybody else I collaborate with, but my wife is BY FAR my favorite business partner. Thank You @krystal’s for the opportunity to create more jobs in our home state of South Carolina. WE THANK GOD FOR IT ALL!!!!!”
Similar to a contract with former football player Victor Cruz, Krystal predicted that the McKelvey units will likely feature branding from Charlamagne Tha God and be smaller prototypes.
Charlamagne and Jessica Gadsden will collaborate with the restaurant’s team to specifically design each site for a unique eating experience, in addition to providing the chain’s famous square-shaped sliders.
According to the Krystal website, if someone wants to become a franchise owner they must complete the pre-qualification process, an initial meeting, finalize all the requirements of joining the team, and lastly, by day 60, secure the essential steps to open as part of the franchise owner criteria.
An ideal multiple-unit candidate should have a good business background (restaurant experience is desired), a net worth of $1,500,000, and minimum liquid assets of $500,000. The total investment range is $450,000 to $1,400,000, excluding real estate, land, and site work costs.
According to Jonathan Childs, managing partner of Krystal Restaurants,
“We want the Krystal brand to continue to be part of the culture and fabric of the communities we serve and we look forward to doing so in our own unique Southern style with a little bit of swag. Both Charlamagne and Jessica embody these qualities & we’re ecstatic to bring Krystal to the greater Charleston area and expand our footprint nationally.”
Krystal, which was established in Chatanooga, Tennessee, in 1932, presently has more than 300 sites throughout the Southeast.
