Donald Trump Returns To Twitter After Elon Musk Uses A Poll To Decide If He Should Reinstate His Account: The People Have Spoken
Billionaire Elon Musk continues to disrupt social politics with his many changes on Twitter.
On Friday (Nov. 18) the new owner of the social media platform posted a poll asking his users if he should “reinstate former president Trump.” According to reports, 51.8% of the more than 15 million people who voted selected “Yes.” Although it was a close call, the “No” votes were still edged out at 48.2%.
Elon Musk announced the results of the poll and said,
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”
Reportedly, “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” is Latin and it translates to “the voice of the people.”

This was seemingly good news for those who voted for Donald Trump to get his account back, However, NAACP President Derrick Johnson did not see this as a win. He fired back at Elon’s poll and said,
“You are failing our democracy. Your garbage poll means nothing. Did people outside the US vote? Did you reach out to marginalized communities—the targets of Trump’s rhetoric—for their input? Your followers don’t represent America. If you run Twitter like this, God help us all.”
It’s important to note that it should come as no surprise that Elon Musk, 51, has allowed Trump back onto the bird app. During a previous interview — before he acquired Twitter — Elon shared he thought Trump’s ban was unfair.
“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump, I think that was a mistake….I would reverse the perma-ban.”
Elon continued,
“My opinion, and Jack Dorsey (Twitter CEO), I want to be clear, shares this opinion, is that we should not have perma-bans….[Perman-bans] should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots or spam accounts.

The then-outgoing president’s account went dark in early 2021 following the Capitol riots on Jan. 6. Donald Trump was accused of using his Twitter to encourage his more than 88 million followers to storm the Capitol. The events from that day left four dead and resulted in 52 arrests, according to reports. Following the deactivation, Trump filed a preliminary injunction stating the ban violated his first amendment rights.

Now that he can tweet again, it’s unclear if Trump has any intentions of using the platform. After being pushed off Twitter, Trump launched his own app called Truth. Since his ban was lifted the 76-year-old has yet to post anything on his Twitter page. However, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has a theory as to why. He shared.
“Smart marketing move for Twitter. Now everyone comes to see what trump does. Awful for trump. The pressure is on him to entertain. Tweets hit different as the President vs. now being TFG.”
Let’s see what happens, especially now that Donald Trump has announced plans to run for president in 2024.
