‘8 Mile’ Actor Mekhi Phifer Says There Will Never Be A Sequel For The Hit Film: Once You Make A Classic, No Reason To Fool Around
Disappointing news for “8 Mile” fans!
If you were waiting on an “8 Mile” sequel, don’t! Amid the film’s 20th anniversary, in a recent interview, “8 Mile” actor Mekhi Phifer revealed that nothing new will be in the works when it comes to a follow-up to the film. Mekhi Phifer, who plays David “Future” Porter in the movie, said:
“Sometimes it’s best to just leave it at one.”
The 48-year-old continued:
“Sometimes it’s just best to leave it alone once you make a classic, no reason to fool around with it.”

According to the actor, despite what fans may want, there hasn’t been any conversation that there will be a sequel. Mekhi Phifer added:
“Like I said, you know, leave the classics alone and it’ll be all good. Just live with the ‘8 Mile.’”
The Harlem native then shared:
“That story that we told is a story, you know, I mean, [a sequel] could be interesting but I wouldn’t be in it and I’m sure Eminem wouldn’t be in it either.”
The 2002 film stars rap mogul Eminem, who plays an aspiring rapper named Jimmy but goes by B-Rabbit. Jimmy’s best friend and battle host, Future, pushes him to get revenge by competing against the Leaders of the Free World at a rap battle after seeing his skills on the mic. The film debuted with $51,240,555 in its opening weekend, the second-highest opening for an R-rated movie in the U.S.
When asked if he thinks Eminem would take on acting again, he admitted:
“I don’t know.”
He then shared that he still keeps in contact with his former co-star and the rapper is “doing his music.”
In 2003, Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 75th Academy Awards for his single “Lose Yourself” featured on the “8 Mile” soundtrack. The 50-year-old became the first rapper ever to win an Academy Award.
