Robin Roberts Shares She’s Saying ‘Yes’ To The ‘Next Chapter’ As She Reveals Plans To Wed Longtime Partner Amber Laign

Robin Roberts is getting married!

The renowned “Good Morning America” anchor shared the news with bestselling author Gabby Bernstein during a discussion about her book “Super Attractor: Methods for Manifesting a Life Beyond Your Wildest Dreams,” in which they explored the idea of “saying yes.” Robin Roberts hesitated before confessing that she “hasn’t said it out loud yet” when Bernstein asked her what she was a “yes” for this year.

She continued,

“I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year. It’s something we’d talked about but we had put it off, she became ill. And it is saying yes to that and that next chapter…I can’t believe I just said that.”

Robin Roberts and her longtime partner Amber Laign have been together since 2005.

The Mississippi native posted on Instagram the moment she made the announcement on “GMA” with the caption, “Saying YES to marriage in 2023,” along with the hashtags “#marriage,” “manifestation,” and “#loveislove.”

And while they have been dating for a while now, Roberts hasn’t always been open about her sexual orientation. As previously reported, there was once a time when she was afraid to interview former President Barack Obama about marriage equality.

The 2012 sit-down interview with the 44th president came after his historic announcement that he supported same-sex marriage. Last April Roberts revealed that, at the time, she was afraid of being outed. She explained,

“There was a possibility that [Obama] would change his stance on marriage equality. I had not been public yet about being gay, and I was afraid that I might be outed, that people might wonder — ‘Why is she the one interviewing the president when he’s making this change in his stance?'”

However, she later decided it would be a big opportunity for her to conduct the interview, and agreed to take it on. Roberts continued,

“It was kind of like a scene out of ‘Moonstruck.’ [I thought] ‘Snap out of it; Robin, what are you thinking? It’s not about you. This man is going to impact countless lives.’ And it was at that moment that I said, ‘I’m gonna stop letting fear keep me from the things that I want to do.”

One year after her interview with Barack Obama, Roberts came out as part of the LGBTQ community, coming to find herself thankful for the interview. She added,

“I’m so grateful that I did that [interview with Obama]. Shortly thereafter is when on Instagram, or on social media, I talked about Amber and all that fear I had of being a Christian, that people would look at me differently.”

Roberts praised Laign in July of last year for finishing radiation therapy after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis at the end of 2021. The television host posted a video of Laign ringing a bell to signal the end of her radiation treatment on Instagram. In her caption, she said,

“Sweet Amber, Completing radiation, a very important phase of her treatment! We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time. This is indeed my #mondaymotivation”

Roberts herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, with her medical journey being chronicled on “20/20” and “GMA.” She had a bone marrow transplant and completed radiation treatment after finding out she had myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
