Nicki Minaj Reportedly Breaks Missy Elliott’s Record To Become Female Rapper w/ Most Consecutive Years Charting On Billboard’s Hot 100
Rap star Nicki Minaj has hit another milestone!
The self-proclaimed “Queen Of Rap” recently broke her tie with hip-hop icon Missy Elliot, to become the sole female rapper with the longest consecutive years charting on the Hot 100.

Data recording platform Chart Data reported the big news via Twitter yesterday (January 4th). Reportedly Minaj, born Onika Tanya Miraj, 40, achieved the feat on New Year’s Day. It’s also noted that her #1 hit “Super Freaky Girl” is what ultimately secured the spot, which has been charting for 20 weeks. The song currently sits at the #51 spot on the Hot 100.
Missy Elliot, born Melissa Arnette Elliott, 51, has appeared on the acclaimed chat since writing and providing vocals for several songs off of Aaliyah’s 1996 album “One In A Million.” The rap star went on to release her first solo chart-topping record “Sock It To Me” from the album “Supa Dupa Fly” in ’97. Reportedly, the album debuted at #3, marking the highest charting debut for a female rapper at the time.
Since her start, Missy Elliot has gone on to win four Grammy’s, eight VMA’s, two AMA’s, and six BET Awards. In 2019 the musician was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Missy was also honored with an honorary doctorate in music from the esteemed Berklee College of Music and is hailed by many as the “Queen Of Rap,” though she has never shown much interest in the title.

Minaj is not short of accolades herself. The rap star has won eight AMA’s, twelve BET Awards, seven BET Hip Hop Awards, and five VMA’s. Additionally, the Young Money artist has six MTV Europe Music Awards, two People’s Choice Awards, and a Soul Train Music Award. Minaj is also one of the most charting female artists of all time. In 2017, the rap star surpassed Aretha Franklin and broke the record for most Hot 100 entries by a female artist ever. The following year, she became the first female artist to accumulate 100 entries on the Hot 100.
Though she hasn’t secured any wins, Minaj has also been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards. Just last year, the “Chun-Li” artist also became the second female rapper to win the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Minaj and Elliott shared an adorable exchange via Twitter at the time, with Missy writing:
“Congratulations to @NICKIMINAJ on this achievement”
Minaj replied:
“Mumbling & cackling??? nah omg thank you Missy. You kicked down this [door]. Nothing but Love & Respect for your iconic artistry. #VMAs #NickiVmas #VideoVanguard.”

Congratulations to Nicki on another win!
