Jalen Hurts & Patrick Mahomes Make History As First Black Starting Quarterbacks In NFL Set To Face-Off At The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is starting things off right for Black history month.
According to sports director Darren M. Haynes, after 57 years, 2023 will be the first Super Bowl in NFL history that will feature two Black quarterbacks. As you may know, the Kansas City Chiefs — with Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback — will be going against the Philadelphia Eagles — with Jalen Hurts as their quarterback — on February 12.

On Sunday (Jan. 29) The Kansas City Chiefs advanced to Super Bowl LVII after they won a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Along with celebrating their victory, congratulations flooded the media for Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports as she became the first Black woman agent to represent a quarterback — Jalen Hurts — in the Super Bowl.

Fans are excited about this year’s football game, especially the Navy! As previously reported, last September international pop star Rihanna confirmed that she will be headlining the half-time show of the Super Bowl. Rihanna previously admitted that she was pretty apprehensive before making her final decision to headline the show. Rihanna, 34, explained:
“It definitely was not a ‘yeah.’ It was like, ‘alright, let me think about it.’ I delayed and delayed and delayed it and it was probably one of the latest announcements they’ve had. But I really started to think about it and truly consider it when I was going through my music and I realized I got some sh*t. I can celebrate this.”
