Lil Jon Threatens To Sue Live Nation For Using His Song To Promote Music Festival He Isn’t Performing At

Please tell all your lovers and friends that Lil Jon is considering taking legal action against Live Nation for using the name of his song to promote a festival he is not even a part of.

According to reports, Lil Jon isn’t happy with the concert-promoting corporation Live Nation naming their upcoming “Lovers & Friends” Vegas music festival after his hit song. To make matters worse, the Atlanta rapper isn’t even included in this year’s lineup.

Ed McPherson, who represents the King of Crunk (real name Jonathan Smith), equates holding a “Lovers & Friends” concert without Lil Jon to holding a “Don’t Stop Believin'” festival without Journey or a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” festival without Jimmy Buffett.

According to Lil Jon, he and Live Nation started talking in May 2022 through one of his attorneys, Doug Davis, and he believed the concert-promoting corporation would ultimately make the right decision. The rapper didn’t want to dwell on the name dispute too much, and instead, placed his energy on making sure that last year’s festival — headlined by Jon, Usher, and Ludacris — was a success.

Nearly a year later and Usher shared the roster for this year’s event in an Instagram post, featuring several megastars including Chris Brown, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, Lil Kim, and Nelly. However, Lil Jon’s name is nowhere in sight.

Lil Jon acknowledges that his 2004 song “Lovers & Friends” is a cover of Michael Sterling‘s 1991 song of the same name, but he claims that his version is the one that became “omnipresent in the Black community”—so much so that Live Nation gave it the name of its festival.

Court documents detail Lil Jon’s efforts to reach a financial agreement over the popular Las Vegas festival, which is slated to take place on May 6.

What are your thoughts on Lil Jon’s reasoning for suing Live Nation? Let us know in the comments!
