Serena Williams Shares Her Thoughts On Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock Nearly A Year After The Oscar’s Incident: It’s Not The End Of The World
Tennis super star Serena Williams is reminding everyone that kindness is key.
During a recent interview, the 41-year-old doubled down on the notion while discussing Will Smith assaulting fellow actor Chris Rock on the Oscar’s stage last year.

Speaking about her family biopic film “King Richard” being celebrated amid the altercation, the Grand Slam champion stated:
“I thought it was such an incredible film, and I feel that there was an incredible film after that with Questlove that kind of was overshadowed.”
She continued:
“But I also feel that I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and I’ve made a tremendous amount of mistakes, and I’m the kind of person that’s like, ‘I’ve been there. I’ve made a mistake. It’s not the end of the world.'”

At the awards ceremony last March, Smith received his first ever Oscar award for Best Actor, portraying Serena’s longtime tennis coach and father Richard Williams in the film. However, the movie’s success was briefly pushed to the side after Smith stormed the stage and hit Chris Rock in the face. The “Grownups” star enraged Smith after making an ill-timed bald joke about wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

The “Fresh Prince” actor went on to apologize several times for the incident, and even resigned from the Academy. The awards committee themselves gave the actor a 10 year suspension from partaking in the ceremony. Since the slap, Smith has continued several of his then halted productions. Earlier this week, the movie star announced the production of the highly anticipated “Bad Boys 4” film alongside co-star Martin Lawrence.

Despite what happened, Williams says that love and kindness can go along way to prevent such things from happening. She continued in the interview:
“We’re all imperfect, and we’re all human and let’s just be kind to each other. That’s often forgotten a lot.”
