Rihanna Worked Through 39 Different Setlists To Perfect Super Bowl LVII Halftime Performance
Rihanna (real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty) is definitely cutting no corners as she prepares to return to the stage!
The Grammy-nominated pop star and beauty mogul is said to have gone through 39 different setlists in order to perfect her Super Bowl LVII halftime performance.
Rihanna told panel moderator Nadeska Alexis during an Apple Music press conference on Thursday (Feb. 9) that she hasn’t been afraid to take the lead because so much depends on her February 12 performance, including her own reputation.
The singer claims it has been nearly impossible to distill hours’ worth of musical magnificence into a 13-minute set, but there are many people involved who are fighting to make it succeed on her behalf. According to Rihanna, while preparing for her show, she has occasionally displayed her bossy side, making little adjustments like where her guitar players should stand.
In the end, the “Needed Me” singer says it was an honor to be given the chance to represent Barbados, immigrants, and Black women equally, and she hopes to incorporate a lot of elements of her home Caribbean culture into the performance.
There are even rumors about cameo appearances from Jay-Z, T.I., and A$AP Rocky (Rihanna‘s boyfriend and the father of her only child).
In September Rihanna confirmed she was going to be the headline performer for the Super Bowl halftime show. She later shared she was initially a little hesitant about her decision to accept the offer.
Rihanna said,
“It definitely was not a ‘yeah.’ It was like, ‘alright, let me think about it.’ I delayed and delayed and delayed it and it was probably one of the latest announcements they’ve had. But I really started to think about it and truly consider it when I was going through my music and I realized I got some sh*t. I can celebrate this.”
It was particularly challenging since, above all else, she is a mother now, and everything else (including the Super Bowl) follows that. According to Rihanna,
“The baby comes into play and then everything shifts, that’s the number one priority…You can’t delay a baby, you can’t push back the due date–it’s coming. So things are going to have to adjust and that’s a challenge in itself and I love it.”
And in other Fenty-related news, the mother-of-one reportedly filed to trademark “Fenty Kids.” While she allegedly doesn’t plan to launch the business anytime soon, the trademark protects the name from use by other companies.
The motion, filed on January 20, describes the children’s clothing brand as a line that includes “infant wear, swimwear, hats, underwear, footwear, leggings, socks.” Baby bibs, booties, caps, and cloth diapers will also be for sale.
Rihanna‘s Fenty umbrella already includes her makeup line, Fenty Beauty, and her skincare line, Fenty Skin. She also allegedly filed in July 2022 to trademark “Fenty Hair.”
