Taye Diggs Speaks On Exit From ‘All American’ After 5 Seasons, Says He ‘Just Honored That Feeling’ That It Was His Time To Leave The CW Series
Looks like Taye Diggs is on to the next one!
Taye Diggs, 52, has said goodbye to the popular CW series “All American.” If you watch the series then you probably know that Diggs was written off in Monday’s (Feb. 13) episode, “Time.” His character Billy Baker was killed during a bus crash that left viewers stunned. Taye Diggs has been a starring original cast member of the fictional sports drama since its debut in 2018.
“All American” follows Spencer James (portrayed by actor Daniel Ezra), a rising high school football player from South L.A. who is recruited by Taye Diggs’ character to play for Beverly Hills High. The series highlights the hurdles Spencer has to overcome as he struggles to stay afloat in both worlds.

During a recent interview, Taye Diggs spoke on his decision to leave the series he’s been a part of for 5 seasons. He said,
“It was just a feeling that I got [that I was ready to leave], and I just honored that feeling.”
He continued:
“It was maybe mid-fourth season. I don’t even remember, to be honest, because the showrunner [Carroll] and myself are close. We’d been keeping in contact, so she had known, and we’d been talking. And we decided how to go about it, and storylines and whatnot, so it was all above board, and everyone was in the know.”

Executive Producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll also released a statement about Taye Diggs’ departure from “All American” and said,
“It has been an honor to work with Taye over these last five seasons and to watch him bring such incredible life to the role of Billy Baker. It has truly been a gift for me and my fellow writers to write a character that was equally flawed and heroic.”
Carroll continued,
“Billy was all of us and what a joy it was to watch this character grow as he raised his kids and his football players as one big family.”
She added,
“We wish Taye the very best in this next chapter of his life and he remains a beloved member of the All American family.”
Carrol also noted that fans likely “haven’t seen the last of Billy Baker.”
