Pharrell Williams Succeeds Virgil Abloh As Louis Vuitton’s Next Men’s Creative Director

Congratulations are in order for Pharrell Williams!

The Grammy award winning singer was just recently announced as the next Creative Director of famed fashion brand Louis Vuitton’s mens line. The position was previously held by fashion icon Virgil Abloh prior to his tragic passing back in 2021.

This week, Louis Vuitton jointly announced with the 49-year-old that he’d be taking on the role. Via an instagram announcement posted to both parties official instagram pages, the fashion brand wrote:

“Louis Vuitton is delighted to welcome Pharrell Williams as its new Men’s Creative Director. His first collection for Louis Vuitton will be revealed next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.

Pharrell Williams is a visionary whose creative universes expand from music to art, and to fashion – establishing himself as a cultural global icon over the past twenty years. The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship.”

With Chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari adding:

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

The post is currently the only one on Pharrell’s page now, seemingly wiping his slate clean for the new opportunity. As previously stated, Virgil Abloh, owner of popular fashion brand Off-White, long held the coveted Louis Vuitton position. Reportedly, the brand brought on Abloh in 2018 who achieved much success during his rise to stardom. However, after a private battle with cancer, Abloh shockingly passed away at the age of 41, leaving his strong imprint on the fashion world behind.

As far as Williams goes, reports state the singer is no stranger to the industry. The “Happy” artist has reportedly had some footing in the fashion realm since the early 2000’s. In 2015, the musician reportedly won the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Collecting accolades and collaborating with fashion greats such as former Louis Vuitton CD Marc Jacobs, it’s no wonder Williams received the job.

Though Pharrell has not spoken publicly about the new position yet, during a 2019 interview the musician talked about his love for fashion, stating:

“When you listen to yourself and you’re comfortable in who you are, you wear what you feel like fits and looks right on you. And that’s it.”
