Update: Judge Greg Mathis Lands New Court Series w/ Byron Allen’s Media Company After Original Show Was Canceled Following 24 Seasons
Update: (Feb. 12, 2023): Judge Greg Mathis won’t be away from your TV screens for too long!
According to new reports, the famed TV personality/judge has found a new home with Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group. As you may recall, news recently broke that his courtroom series, “Judge Mathis,” was canceled by Warner Bros. after running for more than two decades.
While speaking on his new TV home, Judge Greg Mathis said,
“For years I’ve proudly watched Byron Allen build a first-class global media empire. After 24 years on the air, I can’t think of a better company to work with to create my next great chapter.”
He added,
“Byron and I are both from Detroit and it’s exciting to see him build the Motown of court programming by bringing together all of my fellow judges from his 8 court shows – who are the best of the best.”
“Mathis Court with Judge Mathis” will reportedly be a daily one-hour series premiering this fall. Fans of Mathis can catch the show on broadcast television stations, as well as cable, and digital distribution platforms.
Media mogul Byron Allen spoke on the latest addition to his network and said,
“We at Allen Media Group are proud to add ‘Mathis Court with Judge Mathis’ to our amazing portfolio of court shows.”
He added,
“Judge Greg Mathis is an outstanding, charismatic, and iconic television host, and we are extremely confident that our eighth and newest court series with Judge Mathis will be very successful for years to come as he joins our outstanding roster of talent.”
Original story: (Feb. 19, 2023): It’s a sad day to be a fan of mid-day courtroom programming.
According to reports, two of the longest-running syndicated TV courtroom series, “Judge Mathis” and “The People’s Court“, have been axed from production.

“Judge Mathis“, hosted by Judge Greg Mathis – former judge of Michigan’s 36th District Court, will end after 24 seasons. The beloved show premiered back in September of 1999 and has achieved a number of accolades in its decades on air. In 2004, the show won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News, Talk or Information Series. Fast forward to 2018, and the series is taking home an Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program.
In its duration, Mathis has reportedly presided over 13,000 cases, and maintained being the second longest-running court show in continued production with the same host. Additionally, the famed legal professional is reportedly the longest-running male Black American to host a TV series, and the second-longest-reigning arbitrator in courtroom TV history.

Sources attribute the series cancelation to the shrinking advertising marketplace for syndicated daytime TV. Reportedly, local TV stations are minimizing syndication dollars in efforts to save money. It doesn’t seem that Mathis himself has commented on the cancelation at this time.
