Update: Ex-NFL Star Michael Irvin Shares Video Footage Of Interaction w/ Woman Accusing Him Of Misconduct, Refiles $100 Million Lawsuit
Update: (Mar. 14, 2023): Michael Irvin isn’t backing down from the situation that led to him missing out on a job with the NFL Network.
According to new reports, after Marriott Hotel revealed the names of Michael Irvin’s accuser and others involved in the allegations, his legal team filed a notice of dismissal for the case in Texas and announced the $100 million suit has been refiled in Arizona, the state where the alleged incident occurred.
As you may recall, prior to Super Bowl weekend, a woman claimed she had an inappropriate encounter with Michael Irvin at a Marriott in Glendale, Arizona. As a result, he was pulled from the NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage. According to reports, court documents filed last week note that the woman said Irvin stopped her near the hotel’s bar, told her she was attractive then asked,
“whether she knew anything about having a ‘big Black man inside of [her].'”
However, Irvin has always maintained his innocence, claiming nothing wrong took place during the 45-second encounter he had with the woman. His attorney said the recently released footage of the interaction proves the moment was non-problematic.
He said,
“She never acts upset,”
He added,
“She doesn’t act like there’s any problems at all.”
Irvin addressed the woman’s claims and said,
“I don’t speak like that,”
“I’ve never spoken like that. I totally deny saying that. I totally deny saying that.”
Original Story: (Feb. 10, 2023): Former NFL star Michael Irvin has filed a $100 million lawsuit against the woman who accused him of alleged misconduct during an interaction at the Renaissance Hotel in Glendale on Feb. 5.
In the lawsuit, filed on Thursday (Feb. 9), Michael Irvin accused the hotel’s management and its employees of making him the victim of “cancel culture,” and alleged he’s being “railroaded” with false accusations that are ruining his career.
The lawsuit reads,
“Rash and thoughtless actions can have severe consequences. Marriott [parent company of Renaissance Hotels] apparently did not appreciate these simple truths when, in a rush to judgment, its employees and management inaccurately and inflammatorily accused Mr. Irvin of misconduct to the National Football League.”
According to the lawsuit, multiple witnesses, seen with Irvin that same night, confirmed the Hall of Famer’s claim that he “casually exchanged pleasantries” with the female employee (Jane Doe) and “shook her hand, and went to his room alone.”
As previously reported, The former wide receiver told the Dallas Morning News that the encounter took place in the hotel lobby after he had returned from a night out on the town. Irvin said his interaction with the woman lasted only 45 seconds. The two shook hands and then went their separate ways.
Michael Irvin explained,
“Honestly, I’m a bit baffled with it all. This all happened in a 45-second conversation in the lobby. When I got back after going out… I came into the lobby, and I talked to somebody. I talked to this girl. I don’t know her, and I talked to her for about 45 seconds. We shook hands. Then, I left… That’s all I know.”
Irvin admitted that he was out drinking prior to the interaction so he does not remember the details of the conversation.
“I don’t really recall that conversation, to tell you the truth. We were out drinking. It was just a friendly conversation. ‘What’s up?’ I don’t even know…I am totally perplexed.”
The lawsuit states that once Irvin and his legal team became aware of the allegations, they attempted to provide witness accounts to the hotel to rectify the matter, however, the Renaissance Hotel allegedly refused to listen. Interestingly enough, the lawsuit accuses the hotel’s manager of reporting the alleged incident to the NFL “with the intention of damaging that relationship and canceling [Irvin].”
Irvin’s attorney, Levi McCathern told sources that his client’s reputation has been damaged and that Irvin has lost out on money as well as canceled appearances due to the false allegations.
McCathern told sources,
“It is clear Michael is the latest victim of our cancel culture where all it takes is an accusation to ruin a person’s life. Michael looks forward to clearing his name in court and hopes the Court of public opinion will see the truth come out as well.”
As a result of the allegations, Michael Irvin was pulled from being a part of this week’s NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage.
In addition to his duties with the NFL Network, Irvin also appears on ESPN’s “First Take.”
As of now, details of the women’s allegations remain unknown publicly.
