Rapper Gillie Da Kid’s Son YNG Cheese Killed In Fatal Shooting
Sad news.
YNG Cheese, a Philadelphia rapper and son of rapper/podcaster Gillie Da Kid –also known as Gillie Da King–was murdered in a triple shooting on Thursday night (July 20).
The shooting took place just before 8:30 p.m. in the Olney neighborhood of the city. When police arrived, they found two shooting victims including a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the back. Multiple people on the scene told police that the 25-year-old victim was YNG Cheese (real name Devin Spady). He was taken to Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
A 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were also shot in the incident and were transported to the hospital. Both men survived and are currently in stable condition.
YNG Cheese is survived by a young son.
Gillie Da Kid‘s cousin and podcast partner Wallo took to Instagram to pay tribute to YNG Cheese.
He wrote,
“Lil cuz usually when I talk to you, I got a lot to tell you. Tonight the pain in my heart & tears spoke to you. I love you beyond life cheese. I got your father, rest well.”
Wallo was met with love and support from many of his peers including 21 Savage, Bobby Shmurda, Metro Boomin and Big Boi.
Activist Tamika Mallory wrote,
“My God!”
Radio personality Sway Calloway said,
“Praying for y’all.”
One fan offered their condolences and encouraged Wallo to leave the state of Philadelphia due to the violence.
“My condolences. As much as I love to see what y’all do for Philly. Y’all gotta leave. Nothing but haters here.”

Gillie has yet to speak out about his son’s passing. He’s scheduled to host Gillie Fest next Saturday, though it’s unclear if the event will move forward in light of Thursday’s tragedy.
Our condolences goes out to Gillie Da Kid and his family during this difficult time.
