Young Thug’s Attorney Files Motion To Exclude Footage Of Co-Defendant’s Arrest Showing Religious Ceremony Sacrificing Goats
Rapper Young Thug’s legal team has filed a motion to leave out evidence pertaining to a co-defendant’s 2022 arrest, which allegedly involved the sacrifice of goats.
According to reports, Young Thug’s attorney Brian Steel is asking the court to withhold a jury from seeing a video of the arrest of co-defendant Shannon “SB” Stillwell in the high-profile YSL gang trial. The motion reportedly states that on March 17, 2022, Shannon Stillwell was arrested on a murder charge at his East Point, Georgia home “while in the midst of a religious ceremony which involved the supposed sacrifice of goats.”
Atlanta-based reporter Michael Seiden said of the rituals,
“Worshippers wear all-white and sacrifice goats in an effort to bring forth loa, which help to run the universe and can grant blessings.”
Young Thug’s legal team argues there is no need to show the video because Shannon Stillwell’s charges are unrelated to the Atlanta rapper’s case. In addition, his attorneys claim the footage will only turn the jurors against Stillwell and Thug.
The motion reads,
“Although this issue does not directly involve Mr. Williams as he was never involved/arrested on March 17, 2022 nor charged with Mr. Drinks’ supposed murder, law enforcement officers arrested Mr. Shannon Stillwell at 2481 Meadowlark Drive, East Point, Georgia, 30344, while in the midst of a religious ceremony which involved supposed sacrifice of goats.”
It continues,
“There is absolutely no benefit/probative value and the prejudice is great to show this religious ceremony to the jurors simply to show the arrest of Mr. Stillwell as well as Mr. Quamarvious Nichols.”
A judge has yet to rule on the matter.
As previously reported, Thug, real name Jeffrey Williams, 31, was arrested last May — alongside 27 others reportedly associated with the reported criminal street gang YSL — on gang-related charges. The group, allegedly known as Young Slime Life, is accused of carrying out a number of gang-related crimes under YSL founded by the “Best Friend” artist. YSL, however, claims to be nothing more than a record label.
Thug, who remains incarcerated, is accused of allegedly being the ring leader of the gang activity. The rap star’s legal team has failed to get him released on bond five different times.
