Reportedly, Lil Tay, real name Tay Tian, released a statement to TMZ explaining why the world believed she and her brother had passed away. First, confirming that reports of their passing have been false, the young musician reportedly wrote in the statement:
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say,”

She continued:
“It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”

Additionally, the statement went on to claim a “3rd party” hacked Lil Tay’s account in order to “spread misinformation” about the entertainer. The statement reportedly continued:
“My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope.’”
Reportedly, Lil Tay also thanked Meta in the statement for helping her regain control of her account, and the original post announcing her death has since been removed. At this time, there have been no further details provided on the bizarre circumstances surrounding the situation. As we reported yesterday (August 9th), many were shocked at the news of the 14-year-old’s passing. Along with the lengthy instagram message that claimed the entertainer and her brother had both passed away, it was also reported that Lil Tay’s management team confirmed their deaths to several news outlets.

While it’s unclear the motive behind the alleged hacking hoax, social media users have not been shy sharing their thoughts. Many seem to feel the entire thing has been a PR stunt put on by the family. Lil Tay and both her parents have previously been in the spot light due to their public custody battle. Lil Tay began her ascent to fame back in 2018 due to her raunchy rap music and lavish lifestyle video’s. However, the viral internet star has been mostly quiet in recent years, leading many to believe the recent death stunt was purely a PR plot.
