Famed gang member Keefe D may be getting some time away from prison bars soon.

Reports state that the California native, who is currently being tried for the death of late rap icon Tupac Shakur, was recently given a chance at bail and house arrest.

A court judge reportedly ruled that 60-year-old Keefe D, real name Duane Davis, can be released from prison and given an ankle monitor for house arrest should he be able to post his $750,000 bail. As we previously reported, Davis is currently being detained on charges related to the death of rap star Tupac Shakur. If you’re unfamiliar with the situation, the Grammy nominated “Keep Ya Head Up” artist was gunned down in a drive by shooting back in 1996, that also injured Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. The music exec, who is currently jailed on a separate murder charge, has made it clear he has no plans to be involved in the case against Davis.

More than 2 decades after the fatal shooting, Davis was arrested following several instances where he spoke about the tragic incident. Not only has he conducted several interviews admitting to being in the vehicle that executed the assassination, but Davis also reportedly admitted to providing his nephew, Orlando Anderson, with the alleged firearm used to take Shakur’s life. Reportedly, he spoke about the situation in his 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend”.

It seems his admissions were enough to constitute an arrest. It’s noted that in the state of Nevada where Shakur’s death took place, one can be charged for simply helping commit a crime even if they didn’t carry it out themselves. Davis was ultimately charged with murder with a deadly weapon in affiliation with a criminal gang and has since entered a plea of not guilty. In fighting for his release, Davis‘ attorney’s reportedly argued that his recount of what happened on the night in question was exaggerated “for entertainment purposes and to make money.” They also stated that their client shouldn’t be seen as a threat or flight risk, highlighting his previous battle with cancer and the fact that authorities waited 15 years to arrest Davis for the crime, reportedly stating:

“If Duane is so dangerous, and the evidence so overwhelming…why did (police and prosecutors) wait 15 years to arrest Duane for the murder of Tupac Shakur?”

It has not been reported that Davis‘ has posted bail at this time.
