Update: G Herbo Avoids Prison After Pleading Guilty To Wire Fraud Conspiracy, Rapper Sentenced To 3 Years Probation
Update: (Jan. 11, 2024): G Herbo managed to avoid prison time after pleading guilty to wire fraud charges.
As previously reported, In December 2020 the “My City” artist and some of his associates were indicted on multiple federal charges that included wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The men landed in serious legal trouble for reportedly stealing people’s identities to fund their lavish lifestyles. It’s said that they accumulated over $1.5 million in fraudulent charges.
Last Summer G Herbo accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to one charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one charge of making false statements to a federal official. According to the sentencing memo, prosecutors wanted the rapper, real name Herbert Wright, to serve at least a year in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release and a $55,000 fine.
However, he was able to walk away with a sentence of three years probation. He’ll also have to pay $139,968 in restitution and a $5,500 fine.

Original Story: (Jul. 20, 2023):
G Herbo has agreed to plead guilty to wire fraud, identity theft, and lying to federal agents after being indicted by a jury in 2020 in Massachusetts.
The Chicago rapper (born Herbert Wright) along with five other associates – including promotor Antonio Strong – are being accused of using other people’s identities to spend more than $1.5 million in fraudulent charges.
According to the plea agreement,
“Wright used the proceeds of these frauds to travel to various concert venues and to advance his career by posting photographs and/or videos of himself on the private jets, in the exotic cars, and at the Jamaican villa.”
The agreement continues,
“In addition, Wright helped Strong obtain designer puppies from a business by falsely representing to the business that Wright was the actual purchaser of the puppies and by concealing Strong’s actual identity from the business.”
While G Herbo is facing up to 20 years in prison, he will likely get a much shorter sentence with a potential term of probation. Antonio Strong also signed on to the plea agreement. According to the charges, in November 2018, G Herbo lied to a U.S. federal agent regarding his relationship with the Chicago rap promoter, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the identity theft scheme.
While the “We Don’t Care” rapper claims he never received anything of value from Strong, the charges allege that since 2016, Strong had given G Herbo exotic car rentals, private jet charters, and other valuable goods. Prosecutors have used text messages and Instagram DMs to show that the two have been in contact for years.
G Herbo will have to pay $140,000 in restitution to a number of the alleged victims, including $10,458 to Woof Woof Puppies in Michigan.
While the rapper is in a bit of legal trouble, he’s making it clear that he isn’t concerned with anyone snitching on him. On Thursday (July 20) G Herbo took to his Instagram Story with a rather interesting message.
He wrote,
“I know foenemmm won’t tell on me like n**as told on Thug.”
G Herbo was seemingly taking a dig at Gunna who has been accused of snitching on Young Thug. As previously reported, last year Gunna and fellow rapper Young Thug, 31, were among 28 members of the alleged criminal street gang YSL who were charged in a 56-count Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) indictment.
Gunna ultimately entered a negotiated plea, also known as an Alford plea, in which he pleaded guilty on one charge because it was in his best interest while maintaining his innocence on the same charge. He was sentenced to five years behind bars, with one year commuted to time served. The rapper’s remaining balance on his sentence was suspended, subject to probation conditions.
Following his release, Gunna has faced a lot of criticism as many people have accused him of snitching on Young Thug for freedom. However, Gunna – via his legal team – has denied those claims.
