President Joe Biden Shades Donald Trump While Addressing Voter Concern Over His Age: ‘He’s About As Old As I Am, But He Can’t Remember His Wife’s Name’
President Joe Biden took a jab at former president Donald Trump’s age during a rare appearance on Late Night with Seth Myers.
The late-night comic asked President Joe Biden, the oldest president in American history at age 81, how he feels about voter concerns over his age. The president replied,
“You got to take a look at the other guy, he’s about as old as I am, but he can’t remember his wife’s name.”
The comment seemingly alluded to 77-year-old Donald Trump’s appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, when the former president praised his wife, Melania Trump, and then said the name “Mercedes” as in Mercedes Schlapp. The conservative commentator was Donald Trump’s former aide, who was reportedly present at the conference. However, people believe Donald Trump mistakenly called his wife the wrong name.
Also, in the interview with Seth Myers, President Joe Biden added to his age comments about the former president by pointing to Donald Trump’s positions on abortion rights, which he suggested were outdated.
“It’s about how old your ideas are. Look, I mean, this is a guy who wants to take us back.”

The president also criticized Trump for praising those who participated in the Capitol Insurrection on Jan 6, 2021, as well as pledging to pardon those who assaulted police officers and tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He explained,
“That’s what happens in Eastern European countries. That’s not what happens in America.”
In a more cheerful exchange, the comedian and actor also asked the president about a conspiracy theory that Taylor Swift and NFL superstar Travis Kelce are part of an elaborate plot to help Democrats win the 2024 presidential election in November.

He jokingly responded,
“Where are you getting this information? It’s classified.”
The president added,
“But I will tell you, she did endorse me in 2020.”
