Tory Lanez Tells Fans He’ll ‘Be Home Very Soon’ As He Continied
Tory Lanez’s Latest Appeal To Overturn 10-Year Sentence Accuses Prosecutors Of Misconduct, Alleges Megan Thee Stallion Was Asked Questions To Draw Sympathy & Sway The Jury
Lawyers for jailed rap star Tory Lanez submitted a new motion to appeal his lengthy prison sentence on Monday (February 26th).
According to reports, his latest appeal attempt focused on finding fault with the way prosecutors questioned victim Megan Thee Stallion, accusing them of “erroneous admission of evidence” and “prosecutorial misconduct.”
Reportedly, attorneys for Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, 31, argued that prosecutors unlawfully swayed the jury’s decision by drawing sympathy for the victim, Megan ‘Thee Stallion’ Pete, 29. The legal professionals reportedly wrote that the Houston native was:
“allowed to inappropriately answer questions in a narrative format…including testimony concerning irrelevant and inadmissible matters, such as her feelings regarding the circumstances of the incident.”
They added:
“sympathy for the victim is out of place during an objective determination of guilt…prosecutors made multiple improper appeals to emotion and sympathy for the victim…[which] had no bearing on [Lanez’s] guilt or innocence.”
Now that the opening brief for the appeal has been submitted, Lanez is awaiting a response from the California Attorney General’s Office, which is due on March 27th. This will technically be his second attempt at appealing the decision regarding his shooting conviction. Shortly after his sentencing last year, Lanez’s lawyers unsuccessfully submitted a motion for a new trial, which was ultimately denied by the court. His request for bail while going through the appeal process has also been repeatedly denied.
Back in 2022, Lanez was found guilty on three felony charges in relation to the 2020 shooting that caused severe injury to Megan’s foot. The Canada native was convicted of assault with a semiautomatic handgun, having a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle and gross negligence in discharging his firearm. He was subsequently sentenced to 10 years behind bars. Presently, Lanez’s earliest possible parole hearing is in September 2029.
We will continue to update as Lanez’s appeal case moves forward.
