Keke Palmer Clarifies Previous Comments About Her Hollywood Retirement Being ‘Around The Corner’: ‘I Was Thinking Like 20 Years!’
Fans of actress Keke Palmer will be happy to hear she isn’t hanging up her entertainer hat anytime soon.
The 30-year-old recently responded to frustrations about her hinting at retirement, making it clear that time for her is still a distance away.
During a recent interview, Keke Palmer was asked about a remark she made in January that the “timer has started” on her plans to retire from Hollywood. The “Nope” star reportedly explained, however, that she didn’t mean for the comment to be taken so seriously. She stated:
“People took that literally, but I was thinking in like 20 years!”
She continued:
“But also, what I will say is I meant a different type of ‘slowing down.’ I think there’s a version of me that really wants to do more producing, that really wants to do more directing, that wants to do even more work, not only in front of the camera.”
In case you’re unfamiliar, Palmer first insinuated about her career’s future during an interview at the start of the year. While discussing the launch of her platform KeyTV and how long she thinks she’ll continue to pursue acting, the Emmy award winner reportedly stated at the time:
“I don’t know. I think the timer has started…I think it’s because I just haven’t felt it yet. But the timer, I know that it’s around the corner. I don’t know when exactly, but it’s around the corner.”
During her recent interview, Palmer went on to further explain that the trajectory of her acting career will likely be the only thing that slows down. Right now the TV and film star, nicknamed by the internet ‘Keke keep a big Palmer’ has several projects in the works. In addition to returning as host for NBC’s gameshow Password, Palmer is set to star in Whoopi Goldberg’s forthcoming Sister Act 3, as well as a comedy titled Good Fortune, which also stars Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.
Even when she dials back on the acting, presumably to spend more time with her 1-year-old son Leo, Palmer said she won’t disappear for good. She added in the interview:
“I’ll be still doing stuff, but I don’t know if I’m going to always want to be doing three movies a year…That’s amazing. Thank god I am doing that. But I don’t know if I always want to be doing it at that level or that way.”
