Kobe Bryant Statue Containing Multiple Spelling & Formatting Errors Corrected By Lakers Organization
A statue of late basketball star Kobe Bryant has finally received a much needed update.
Following backlash from fans about noticeable spelling and formatting eras, the Lakers organization is said to have taken the time to correct the mistakes.
Reportedly, Laker game attendees began to notice the base of the Kobe Bryant statue, located outside of the Crypto.com Arena, contained multiple errors after it was unveiled this past February. The monument is one of three statues slated to appear around the city dedicated to Bryant and his daughter Gianna who sadly perished in a plane crash back in 2020. For the fans, honoring Bryant’s legacy is of utmost importance as he brought the city five NBA championships and solidified himself as one of the best players of all time.

Despite his importance to the city, however, it seems attention to detail was lacking at base of the statue. The monument contained errors such as the misspelling of former NBA players Jose Calderon and Von Wafer‘s names in a rendering of the box score from Bryant’s historic game where he scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

Additionally, the phrase “Coach’s Decision” was incorrectly spelled twice and in two different ways. The statue also had formatting mistakes in the synopsis that listed many of Bryant’s achievements. The report notes that a spot featuring an exact copy of Bryant’s signature was also changed to read “Kobe,” instead of “Kobe 24.”

After fans began to call out the inaccuracies on social media, the Lakers organization released a comment stating that it had been aware of the mistakes for a few weeks and was working to fix them, a promise they’ve since delivered on. It is unclear whether or not it will retain the same company to create the other forthcoming statues dedicated to Bryant and his Lakers legacy.
