Brittney Griner & Her Wife Cherelle Announce They’re Expecting A Baby Soon!

Congratulations are in order for WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle Griner!

The couple recently shared that they are expanding their family with a baby, who’s set to arrive in the near summer.

Cherelle Griner announced the big news to her Instagram page, uploading a picture of a sonogram with the caption:

“Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being #BabyGrinerComingSoon#July2024”

At this time it doesn’t appear that Brittney Griner herself has spoken publicly out about her coming child. Details regarding the actual pregnancy also remain unclear. However, the announcement did confirm that the baby’s expected arrival is sometime in July. News of a Griner baby comes more than two years after the hooper’s life was changed following her Russian detainment. If you recall, the athlete spent over a year in jail overseas after she was arrested for traveling with THC vape cartridges. A novel about the ordeal will reportedly be released in May of this year.

While Griner was detained, Cherelle was very vocal about her wife’s situation and even championed President Joe Biden to work something out on Griner’s behalf, which he ultimately did. In an exchange agreement, the US swapped an imprisoned Russian arms dealer for Griner’s freedom, leading to her release in December of 2022. Cherelle gave an interview after the hooper got home, opening up about the ordeal and explaining how the couple were trying to get their lives back on track.

With the recent baby news, it seems they’re headed in a hopeful direction! Griner and Cherelle met at Baylor University and tied the knot in 2019. The coming child with be the first for them both.
