LeBron James — New York School Officials Investigating After Racist Poster Comparing Athlete To A Monkey Is Displayed At Student Art Show
Lebron James’ likeness has been used in a racist school art project.
On Saturday (May 4) the annual art celebration at the New Hartford Central School District, unfortunately, took a bad turn thanks to a racist submission. According to reports, one New York student displayed a parody cereal called “Monkey Premium” that featured an image of well-known NBA player LeBron James, monkeys, and bananas. In the mock ad titled “Eat Monkeys, Jump Like Monkeys!,” Lebron James has a basketball in his hands and is pictured appearing to jump over a bowl of cereal-shaped monkeys, and bananas. As if that wasn’t racist enough, the fine print on the box said,
“These delicious monkey and banana shaped grams are tasted like both chocolate and banana. This cereal makes you jump 2-5 inches higher for about 2 hours after eaten. It is a great pregame meal and is also great for kids. It is fund and the most delicious cereal you will ever eat.”

Due to them being a minor, the identity of the student who created the fake cereal has not been released to the public. However, district officials are investigating how the unnamed minor was even able to display such an offensive piece to begin with. In a letter addressing the disheartening situation, Cosimo Tangorra, superintendent of schools, said,
“District administration immediately began an investigation. It is disheartening that racist work was not only created, but then overlooked and allowed to be displayed.”
The letter continued,
“The student involved has been contacted, but due to student privacy, we cannot divulge specific details regarding the student and whether or not there were disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Code of Conduct. Administrators have also spoken with staff members responsible for the oversight of the artwork, and we are using this as a teachable moment.”
At the time of this report, it seems the investigation is still ongoing and nothing more on the matter has been revealed.
