Kevin Hart’s Ex-Assistant Wants NDA Thrown Out, Claims Comic Was Aware She Was ‘Suffering From Significant Mental Health Issues’ When Contract Was Signed
The former assistant of Kevin Hart is fighting to have the NDA she signed thrown out.
According to reports, Miesha Shakes, who worked for the comedian from 2017 to 2020, recently confirmed that the non-disclosure agreement existed, but said Kevin Hart was untruthful about what the document was.
In court docs obtained by In Touch, Kevin Hart’s ex-assistant attempted to explain the situation, alleging that she was under the impression the NDA was something different than what it was. Miesha Shakes argued that she was impacted by severe mental and financial stress at the time, and said the 44-year-old actor took full advantage of her vulnerability. She wrote in the recently filed motion:
“At the time of signing the NDA, I was suffering from significant mental health issues and was under considerable financial distress due to my unemployment. Hart was fully aware of my ongoing health issues and critical need for health insurance and funds, as I could not afford health insurance or my prescribed medications.”
She added:
“At the time I executed the NDA, I was not aware that it included a confidentiality clause as I was told by Hart that it was simply a mutual release and it would benefit me and my family.”
As you may recall, Miesha Shakes, along with YouTuber Tasha K and her media company Yellen, were all sued for defamation by Hart last year. The former celebrity assistant appeared on an episode of Tasha K’s podcast where she made several disturbing claims against her ex-boss, including allegations of sex and gambling addictions; all accusations of which Hart has claimed are defamatory and false.
In his suit, Hart alleged that Shakes violated her confidentiality agreement by speaking on things she heard while around him, making false accusations about her personal life, and argued that Tasha K’s involvement makes them both liable for defamation. He claimed:
“I understand from speaking with my security personnel, [Miesha] admitted during the interview, that [Miesha] obtained some of the information she discussed in the interview by covertly listening through the walls, with her ear to the wall, to private interactions occurring behind closed doors at our offices…Working in the entertainment industry, my livelihood depends in large part on my reputation and the public’s perception of me. That perception is of particular concern in light of the fact that I am involved in a number of family-oriented projects, such as the Jumanji franchise, Fatherhood, Captain Underpants, The Secret Life of Pets, and others.”
He added:
“I also endorse various national brands, and those endorsement deals depend in part on a public perception of my reputation, respectability, and character.”
Hart unsuccessfully filed a motion to stop the interview from airing prior to its release. He claimed that an associate of Tasha K attempted to extort $250,000 from him to keep the discussion from going public. Both Tasha K and Shakes‘ have continued to deny the allegation. The defamation case is still ongoing at this time, and it has not been reported that a judge has ruled on Shakes‘ latest request.
