Tyrese Becomes Overwhelmed w/ Emotions As He Opens Up About Ongoing Battle w/ Grief: ‘Black Men Cry’
Tyrese Gibson is finding himself in the spotlight once again, this time due to an emotional interview on The Breakfast Club.
The 45-year-old singer and actor broke down during his recent appearance as he opened up about managing grief.

Highlighting that men also need emotional support, Tyrese said,
“Black men cry. When a divorce happens, women aren’t the only ones devastated. When a miscarriage happens, women aren’t the only ones you should be checking on. When you can’t put food on the table because your career goes up and then it goes down, stop skipping over the man and just checking on the woman.”
Reflecting on his financial struggles, Tyrese opened up about his 2021 stint on The Masked Singer, explaining:
“I was really a masked singer. I needed that mask so f****** bad. I needed that money from that show so bad. I didn’t have it in me to go stand on that f****** stage and sing, and thank God I had a mask on.”
This heartfelt display of emotion echoes Tyrese’s previous breakdown in 2017 when he publicly wept over his contentious custody battle with his ex-wife, Norma Mitchell Gibson. At that time, a video posted on social media captured Tyrese’s deep distress over the ongoing legal struggle.
In more recent developments, Tyrese is entangled in legal action against Norma Mitchell, seeking repayment for their daughter Shayla Somer Gibson’s tuition fees, which may be contributing to his emotional strain.
Tyrese claimed that Norma owes over $25,000 for her share of the school payments he has covered for the 2022-2025 academic years. He has requested that this amount be deducted from his child support payments. Norma responded with a defamation lawsuit and a request for a restraining order, but the restraining order request was later dismissed.
