Rosie Perez Reveals How Madona Asked Her To Set Her Up w/ Tupac
Rosie Perez recently shared how she played wingwoman for none other than Madonna, who had her sights set on rapper Tupac Shakur.
During an appearance on Drew Barrymore’s show, Perez recalled how Tupac Shakur stepped in as her date for the 1993 Soul Train Music Awards after her original date backed out at the last minute. She shared,
“I was going to the Soul Train Music Awards, and my date calls me up a half hour before I’m getting in the car and says, ‘I can’t go with you because my girlfriend will see me.’”
After venting her frustration at the man who had backed out, Rosie Perez was ready to give up on the night when Tupac Shakur called. She explained how she told him what had happened, prompting Tupac to say,
“You know what, I’m gonna go with you, we’re gonna walk up in there, we’re gonna act like we’re on a date, and he’s going to die.”
The night only got more interesting from there. When Madonna spotted them together at the awards, she immediately expressed interest in Tupac. Rosie Perez recalled, “She came up to me and was like, ‘Yo, what’s up? Y’all are together?’” When Perez told Madonna they weren’t, Madonna responded, “Hook me up.” Perez replied, “You got it.”
Madonna and Tupac would go on to date in secret from 1993 to 1994, a relationship she confirmed years later.
