Former NFL player Antwione Williams Arrested For Role In Jan. 6 Capitol Riots
Former NFL player Antwione Williams, a former Detroit Lions draft pick, was arrested by the FBI this week on felony charges, including assault, for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol riots. Williams, who played just one season on the Lions’ active roster before being waived in 2017, is the first person arrested for the riots since former President Donald Trump’s reelection last week.
The FBI identified Williams through social media photos that matched his outfit on January 6, including a distinctive New Era Golf hat and a key chain with a Chevrolet car fob. Surveillance footage also showed him breaking police barricades and engaging in a physical altercation with an officer. Williams reportedly stayed on Capitol grounds for several hours during the riot.
Additional evidence included credit card records showing a purchase at a parking lot near a train station close to the Capitol. Williams previously spent time on the practice squads of the Vikings, Panthers, and Seahawks from 2017 to 2019.
