President Joe Biden Grants Clemency To 1,500 ‘Non-Violent’ Offenders In Largest Single-Day Clemency To Date
President Joe Biden will commute the sentences of nearly 1,500 offenders and pardon 39 others, marking the largest single-day act of clemency in U.S. history.

In a statement, Biden emphasized the importance of second chances, saying, “America was built on the promise of possibility and second chances… As president, I have the great privilege of extending mercy to people who have demonstrated remorse and rehabilitation.”

The commutations primarily affect “non-violent” offenders, all of whom have been on home confinement for at least one year under the COVID-19-era CARES Act.

The White House added that these individuals have shown “successful rehabilitation and a strong commitment to making their communities safer.”

This move follows Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter, who faced federal gun charges and tax evasion charges. Despite previously ruling out pardoning his son, Biden made this decision shortly before Hunter’s sentencing. *Do you agree with pardoning non-violent offenders?*
