Original Story (Feb. 4, 2025): Donald Trump is reportedly weighing executive action to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, sources told The Wall Street Journal.
The Education Department currently oversees student loans, Pell Grants, non-discrimination policies, and programs for disadvantaged students, with the alleged move aiming to eliminate some programs and transfer others to different federal agencies.
Donald Trump previously vowed in 2023 that he would “close up” the department, but it’s important to note that eliminating it outright would require congressional approval.
