Solange’s Son Julez Smith Opens Up About Close Bond w/ Grandmother & ‘Best Friend’ Tina Knowles + Reveals If Music Is In His Future

Solange’s son, Julez Smith, recently opened up about his close relationship with his grandmother, Tina Knowles, and shared his thoughts on pursuing a music career.

During a new interview with Teen Vogue, the 20-year-old model was asked if there’s anything “besides your face” that he gets from his famous grandmother. Julez responded with heartfelt praise, saying:

“Everything. I’m not going to lie, I grew up with my grandma. I’m a grandma’s baby. Of course, I grew up with my mom and my pops and everybody, but my best friend, I would say, is probably my grandma.”

Adding:

“She taught me how to be a young man. She taught me the rules of the house. She taught me how to be a man of the house. She taught me how to respect others and everything, and she keeps me up on my fly, too. She be sending me clothes and all types of stuff. My grandma, she’s my dog, man.”

Beyond their close bond, Julez credited Tina for being the one who introduced their family to fashion. As the founder of House of Deréon and a former designer for Destiny’s Child, Tina’s influence on style and creativity has been monumental, and Julez has followed in her and his mother’s fashion-forward footsteps.

Elsewhere in the interview, Julez admitted that despite his family’s musical roots, he doesn’t see himself going in that direction. When asked about potentially pursuing music, he stated:

“I messed around with the production side, making beats and stuff. I think I like more executive producing, so I like putting people together and making a sound, but I never wanted to rap, never wanted to sing, never wanted to do that.”

Reflecting on a past viral moment, he added:

“I did music class. I had a clip, that sh*t went viral, but it was me in music class my freshman year of high school, and we had a studio at our school, so a part of the class was to make a song. So I just went in there rapping and I ended up posting it on my Story, which I guess was my mistake… it went viral. But no, I’m not good at rapping. It ain’t my cup of tea.”
