Michael Jackson’s Estate Slams Auction House For Selling His Unreleased Music
Michael Jackson’s estate is not here for an auction house trying to sell his unreleased music.
Gotta Have Rock and Roll is auctioning off cassette tapes featuring 12 never-before-heard MJ tracks recorded in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The starting bid is set at $85,000, with the expected sale price being between $150K and $200K.
However, MJ’s estate is calling the auction a “sad attempt by an auction site to mislead the public.” They claim the tapes are just copies of the original master recordings, which the estate owns—meaning the buyer won’t be able to reproduce or publicly play them.

Meanwhile, Dylan Kosinski, president of Gotta Have Rock and Roll, is defending the sale, arguing that the cassettes are even more valuable since they can’t be released. He also pointed out that MJ’s estate keeping the master recordings locked away “only makes this auction a bigger deal.”
Despite the estate’s disapproval, the auction is moving forward, with bidding opening Wednesday (Feb. 19) at 9 AM ET.
