Migos’ Instagram Page Hacked By Scammers Seemingly Trying To Extort $4.3 Million In Cryptocurrency

The official Instagram account for Migos was hacked earlier today (May 27) in what appeared to be a wild extortion attempt targeting Solana Foundation co-founder and crypto figure Raj Gokal.

Hackers posted images of Gokal holding his passport and driver’s license, both fully visible, as well as a photo of a woman, believed to be Gokal’s wife, holding her ID. The scammers made their demand for 40 Bitcoin (equivalent to $4.3 million USD) clear in the post captions, reportedly writing:

“You should’ve paid the 40 btc.”

Adding in another:

“it was only 40 btc… should’ve paid.”

But it didn’t stop there. Gokal’s personal phone number and email address were also leaked, along with instructions to “spam” him. The account bio was reportedly updated to promote a meme coin scam, complete with audio clips and a Telegram link.

Former Migos member Quavo confirmed the hack in a now-deleted IG Story, reportedly writing:

“Our Ig is hacked and will be back up shortly thanks.”

The posts remained live for nearly two hours before the account was finally secured and wiped clean.

Interestingly, Gokal reportedly mentioned hacking attempts a few days ago. On May 20, he shared that individuals had been trying to access his email and social media accounts for over a week.

Neither Gokal nor the Solana Foundation has released an official statement about the recent extortion attempt, and it’s still unclear why the Migos account was chosen as the vehicle for the attack.

Weird. What are your thoughts?
