Trump Grants Additional 90-Day Extension For TikTok Sale Ahead Of Potential U.S. Ban
TikTok isn’t going anywhere, at least for now.
President Trump is giving ByteDance, the China-based parent company of TikTok, another 90 days to sell off the app’s U.S. assets, pushing the deadline from June 19 to mid-September. The update comes despite a law that originally required TikTok to either sell or shut down back in January if no major progress was made.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the reports on Tuesday (June 17), saying:
“President Trump will sign an additional executive order this week to keep TikTok up and running.”
She added:
“President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark,” and said the extra time will help ensure the sale closes in a way that protects American users’ data.

This marks the third time Trump has extended the deadline. He first delayed the mandate in January, then again in April, and now once more, just before the June 19 cutoff.

Speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump acknowledged the likelihood of another delay ahead of the recent confirmation, stating:
“Probably..[we] have to get China’s approval but I think we’ll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it.”

Trump, who credited TikTok with helping him reach younger voters during the 2024 election, has shown a willingness to ease up on China tariffs if it helps get the deal done.
For now, it looks like TikTok will stay online a little longer as negotiations continue.
What are your thoughts on the continued delay of the TikTok ban?
