Salt-N-Pepa’s Cheryl James Says Group’s Lawsuit Against UMG Isn’t Comparable To Drake’s: ‘It’s Kind Of Like Calling The Police’

Salt-N-Pepa’s Cheryl James Says Group’s Lawsuit Against UMG Isn’t Comparable To Drake’s: ‘It’s Kind Of Like Calling The Police’
Don’t compare Salt-N-Pepa’s battle against UMG to Drake’s legal complaint against the label!
Group member Cheryl James, who performs as Salt, was recently asked by paparazzi if she feels there are any similarities between the ongoing suits. Cheryl admitted she doesn’t see the two situations as comparable, saying of Drake’s suit:
“Well, I’m old school, and hip-hop is like battling and going back and forth. It’s kind of like calling the police… I love Drake though, but… I can’t get with that one.”

Her comment refers to Drake’s lawsuit accusing UMG and Spotify of colluding during his battle with Kendrick Lamar to promote Kendrick’s diss track “Not Like Us.”
Meanwhile, Salt-N-Pepa is suing UMG for allegedly withholding the rights to their masters, despite their contract having already expired. Cheryl shared that UMG was supposed to transfer ownership of the masters after 35 years, but the group’s catalog has now been with the label for over 40 years.
She also said that the situation worsened when UMG pulled most of Salt-N-Pepa’s music from streaming platforms, sparking backlash from longtime fans. Still, the group is pushing forward and is thankful to fans for their continued love and support.
Do you agree with Cheryl’s take on the two suits against UMG?
