Allegedly Tried To Break Luigi Mangione Out Of New York Jail
Luigi Mangione apparently has some steppers on the outside.
Prosecutors allege that Mark Anderson, 36, arrived at the Metropolitan Detention Center in #Brooklyn on Thursday (Jan. 29) and falsely claimed he was an FBI agent acting under judicial authority. Investigators say Anderson asserted he had a court order authorizing the release of an inmate believed to be #LuigiMangione, who is currently incarcerated while awaiting both federal and state trials.
Although the criminal complaint itself does not identify the inmate by name, law enforcement sources indicated Anderson was attempting to free Luigi, who is charged in the December 2024 sh**ting de@th of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. When prison officials requested proof of Anderson’s identity, prosecutors say he presented a Minnesota driver’s license and produced a stack of documents that failed to establish his claimed authority.
Authorities further allege that Anderson informed Bureau of Prisons personnel that he was carrying weapons in his bag. A search of the bag reportedly uncovered a barbecue fork and a pizza cutter, according to court records. Anderson is scheduled to make an initial court appearance sometime today.
