Olympic Sprinter Sha Carri Richardson Arrested In Florida After Deputies Say She Was Driving 104 MPH On Highway
Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson is facing legal trouble in Florida after deputies say she was clocked driving at an extremely high speed on a Central Florida roadway.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, a traffic enforcement deputy stopped a vehicle traveling 104 mph on State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway on Thursday. Deputies said the driver was also tailgating and weaving across lanes to pass other cars. Authorities identified the driver as Richardson. She was arrested on a charge of dangerous excessive speeding (100 mph or more). No further details about the stop were immediately released.
The arrest comes as Florida enforces its newer “Super Speeder” law. Under the statute, drivers going more than 50 mph over the speed limit or reaching 100 mph or more can face tougher penalties.
“Drivers can face a fine of $500 or more and 30 days in jail,” Sergeant Steve Gaskins with the Florida Highway Patrol previously told WFLA. Repeat offenders may face a $1,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
Richardson earned silver in Paris in 2024 and Olympic gold in the 4×100 relay.
She has not yet spoken publicly about her arrest.
